The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) announced that a number of Kuwaiti banks were awarded the ISO 27001:2013 Certification for “Information Security Management System”. Attaining this globally recognized international standard for information security management is in line with the CBK’s efforts, specifically its Cyber Security Framework, towards developing the banking sector according to the best international practices to reach optimal efficiency of operations and IT security.

The CBK stated that this international standard adopts a process-based approach for establishing information security policies and procedures to improve the protection of data centers and information in the banking sector. It also helps develop and monitor Information Security Systems by assessing their significance, anticipating potential risks, and providing technical and effective solutions that contribute to the efficient management of risks.

CBK added that the ISO 27001:2013 certification was awarded to the National Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait Finance House, Burgan Bank, Commercial Bank of Kuwait, Boubyan Bank, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Ahli United Bank and Kuwait International Bank after fulfilling the Certification’s requirements. Some of these banks had previously been awarded this certification and have recently renewed it. Other Kuwaiti banks are working to meet the certification requirements in the near future.

In conclusion, the CBK affirms its resolve to develop the digital infrastructure in the banking sector to the highest international standards and specifications, and to adopt internationally recognized practices to strengthen the performance of the banking and financial sectors in the State of Kuwait.
