CBK Confers with Abdullah Al-Salem University Board on Future of Jobs

Aiming to assess job market demands and the skills required from graduates seeking banking and finance sector employment, the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) hosted a meeting with the Constituent Board of Abdullah Al-Salem University. Initiated by the latter, the meeting convened at CBK Headquarters Monday, Dec 20, 2021 chaired by CBK Governor Dr. Mohammad Y. Al-Hashel and the university board’s Chairperson Professor Dr. Moudi A. Al-Humoud.

CBK officials and university board members discussed the need for cooperation and coordination to enhance academic curricula and to bridge the gap between graduates’ skills and knowhow with those actually required in the job market. This is increasingly necessary amid the current technological boom and the resulting swift developments, as well as the increasing need of rectifying job market structural imbalances through promoting private sector employment and creating more jobs for nationals.

The participants touched upon the types of skills and knowledge needed in the banking and finance industry in Kuwait, which is the top national workforce employer. The industry, which is undergoing accelerating advancement, is reliant on a wide range of fields including Data Analysis, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and other related specialties.

The CBK initiated and hosted a meeting in 2019, which gathered heads of government and private academic institutions with officials from Kuwaiti banks to discuss and assess the requirements of the banking sector and means of providing graduates with the skills required for future employment in the sector.
