CBK Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Kuwait Banks in Cooperation with Global Finance Magazine

Roundtable discussion brought together Kuwaiti Banks to discuss challenges and opportunities for the economy amid evolving global economic conditions and ongoing geopolitical developments.

The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), in cooperation with Global Finance Magazine, hosted a closed banking roundtable discussion bringing together a select group of Kuwaiti Banks to discuss the recent global, regional and domestic economic and financial developments and their implications for the Kuwaiti economy.

The discussion started with opening remarks from His Excellency Basel A. Al-Haroon, Governor of CBK, who noted that Kuwait approaches the present environment from a position of strength, supported by a robust external position, a credible monetary framework, and a well-capitalized and liquid banking sector. These strengths provide the economy with the capacity to absorb volatility and respond effectively to changing conditions.

Following the opening remarks, the roundtable addressed a range of issues related to Kuwait’s economic outlook amid evolving global and regional economic and geopolitical developments, as well as the progress of economic diversification and the role of the banking sector in supporting private-sector growth and productive economic activity.

The discussion also covered a number of areas expected to shape the future of the financial sector, including capital-market development and housing finance, rapid developments in technology and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, as well as sustainability and sustainable finance.

The roundtable forms part of the continued dialogue on the opportunities and challenges facing Kuwait’s economy and financial sector, and on the transformations that can contribute to strengthening the resilience of the banking sector and its role in supporting sustainable economic development.
